Threat of Pornography

Pornography can be identified as a very dangerous social disease. In the language of religion, pornography may be cited as the source of evil (umm al-khaba'its). Say so, because pornography can lead to other vices in society. Pornography may weaken the bonds of moral, as well as encouraging the emergence of new patterns of life that tend to permissive and hedonistic.

Now an increasing threat of pornography, not just pornography, but also porno action. At first, the category of pornographic images or image form (graphic), while in the second (pornoaction) form of action or behavior. Of course, the latter is more threatening, because of its direct (live), concrete (externalized), and challenging (interested).

In the language of the Koran, pornography or porno-action is called tabarruj. According to the expert commentary, tabarruj means exposing aspects of the beauty of a woman (idzhar Mahasin-u-i al-mar'at-i), or show off something that eligibility should be closed (idzhar yajib ma-u-u-u ikhfa'uh ). Word of God, "And be ye not ornate and behave like the people of ignorance of the ancients." (QS. al-Ahzab: 32).

Tabarruj as mentioned in the above verse refers to the time of her habit of ignorance. They used to dress up in excess by showing aspects of jewelry and beauty of their bodies. This was done just when they wanted out of the house.

Their habits in this case seems no different from the women of today. This means, the habit of first lady in the days of ignorance (jahiliyyat al-ula) has resurfaced in the modern era of ignorance (jahiliyyat al warn al'isyrin).

The women were ordered to abandon the habit of believing ignorance. They are required to better care of myself, by controlling the view, close the genitals, wearing a veil or headscarf, and in no way justified to tabarruj (Surah al-Nur: 31). In a hadith, Prophet Muhammad forbade her to open up the nakedness. It is said, the nakedness of women is a whole body, except for two things as an exception, namely the face and the palm (Abu Daud).

In another report stated, as revealed verse 31 of Surat al-Nur above, together Muslim women cover their heads and necks. In fact, some of them are tearing their sarongs as a veil or headscarf.

Thus, the order for Muslim women cover nakedness, maintain decorum and decency with hooded or veiled, is not a problem khilafiyah, but the teachings of Islam which in truth is based on the Quran and As-Sunnah.

Every Muslim, on par with the capabilities, should try to fight pornography and porno-action. This effort is felt more important to do in the midst of the threat of pornography and porno-action is the craze these days.
